What is the advantage of selection for consumers and society?
Although genetics often meet economic challenges for the farmer and the sectors, it also has advantages for the animals, product quality or the preservation of the genetic heritage of French livestock.
Since the 2000s the players in selection have incorporated functional characteristics into breeding schemes thus making it possible to improve disease resistance, udder health, hardiness, stance and ease of calving, for example.
So the farmer is not alone in profiting from selection. It is society as a whole, consumers, producers and citizens, which profits from it.
